Rollie Miles Grand Opening Was a Huge Success

Edmonton Track and Field Council

Last night we held the Rollie Miles Grand Opening event and it was spectacular!

A short recap of the numbers:

  • 70+ Competitors
  • 150+ spectators
  • 40+ Volunteers
  • One Heck of a lot of fun

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the competition commenced with 50 and 100 meter races for the little ones. Followed shortly after, the children were given a chance to learn all about the 4X100m relay from real Olympians EJ Parris and Neville Wright! Meanwhile, Jesse Lipscombe (The Evening's MC) demonstrated some truly amazing high jumping. At the other end of the track from Jesse, the Pole Vaulters were in their top form! Records were broken, rankings were achieved, and PBs were made by almost everyone! Following a short break, we held the Alberta 10,000m championships. Over 30 people arrived to compete; everyone gave their all, it was a great race to watch!

We want to thank everyone who came out to see the event, we hope you all a fantastic time. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers, officials, athletes, and vendors.

A special thanks to our sponsors for helping make this event happen:

  • London Drugs
  • Shoppers Drug Mart
  • United Cycle
  • Athletics Alberta
  • Safeway

It was an amazing event and who knows maybe we will see you all out again next year?!

Running Room Indoor Games 2015 Was A Great Success

Edmonton Track and Field Council

First I would like to say congratulations to everyone on some great performances at the Running Room indoor Games yesterday.  It was once again an privilege to get to see some great competition and thank you to all of the volunteers and organizers who make this event possible.

Second, the Edmonton Track and Field Council had set up an information booth again this year.  I believe this year was even more successful than last.  We handed out all of our 100 website cards, 15 people fill out sheets requesting information on clubs in the city and had over 200 individuals enter our draw for the Timex watch that was so kindly donated to us from our friends at Athletics Alberta.  I am excited to see which new faces were drawn to the track scene from these games and I am looking forward to the event again next year.
